We are a group of UConn students who felt a need to give back. In our state alone, thousands of people are food insecure, even if they are above the poverty level. Our commitment is to make a difference by providing these families with a meal on a holiday dedicated to enjoying good food and good company.
It started as a class project to create a pro-social campaign, but quickly became a more dedicated effort than it first seemed. With the values we hold highest—family, friends, and happiness—it became clear we would have to do a campaign that brought people together. Luckily, we all recognized the upcoming holidays as times when everyone gets together to share food, stories, and company for the selfless sake of spreading good cheer.
However, it's equally important to remember that not everyone has the ability to celebrate alongside the population, lacking the food or money to appreciate the holiday in the same manner. That's why we ask that you give alongside us to fill the gaps that families face and to spread the good cheer of the Thanksgiving season. We know it may seem intimidating or difficult to provide a meal for a family, but every little bit helps.
Join us on November 18th in the Student Union to give a family the chance to celebrate the holidays alongside your family in the upcoming week.
